Focus > Bratislava

The artist-in-residence project Focus > Bratislava takes place in the framework of the Europan Art Scholarship of the District County of Upper Bavaria. Partner of the cooperation is the Creative and Cultural Centre Nová Cvernovka in Bratislava.

Preface

The goal of the European artists exchange of the District County of Upper Bavaria is to consolidate the cultural relations between countries of the european community by a partnership and to enrich the regional as well as the upper bavarian cultural scene.

The artist exchange with the Reaktor Residency Centre of the Creative and Cultural Centre Nová Cvernovka in Bratislava started in May, 2019. One artist each from Slovakia and from Upper Bavaria are living and working for each 2 months in the respective partner country.

The artist exchange pauses in 2020 because of re-structuring of the partner institution.

About the Reaktor Residency Centre

The nclusive residency program offering 2-months research and creative residencies in cooperation with other local and international residency programs and individual exchange activities. It takes place in developing Creative and cultural centre of Nová Cvernovka (est. 2016), in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Mission

"Our goal is set to enhance the creative potential of our activities both by establishing new partnerships with creative centers across Europe and by inviting creative individuals from all over the world to join us and share their ideas and experience.The residency program is designed as an opportunity for art world professionals - curators, cultural operators, visual artists as well as performance or literary artists, together with philosophers, theoreticians, sociologist and other social scientists. Their residency projects should lead to establishing a close contact with Slovak art scene and support our cultural centre in its development stage."

Vision

The residency program launched in 2018 with research residencies for experts and theorists and creative residencies for artists and performers to look into various problems and topics related to the cultural centre itself (e.g. gentrification, deindustrialization, demographic shifts, ecologic sustainability etc).

Inclusiveness

The residency centre is also designed to welcome people usually unwittingly excluded from majority of residency programs:

  • parents / families with children
  • middle-aged and elderly persons
  • disabled persons

Premises and capacity

Currently Reaktor offer 4 residency apartments (25m and 29m) and 1 studio (25m). The residency program is able to operate up to 4 residencies at the same time in a twomonths period (which means up to 24 residents per year).

Conditions

  • Residency appartment (one room with bathroom and small kitchen, with one room designed for small families)
  • Residency studio (25m)
  • Residency guide (helping getting in touch with local art scene, suggesting itinerary, helping with a basic orientation in the town)
  • Covering of travel expenses (up to 200 euro)
  • Artist fee 500 € / month

Kunstaustausch

Das Artist-in-Residence-Programm am Schafhof - Europäisches Kunstforum Oberbayern findet im Rahmen des Europäischen Kunststipendiums des Bezirks Oberbayern statt.

Während des Aufenthalts der Gastkünstlerinnen und Gastkünstler in Freising finden verschiedene öffentliche Veranstaltungen wie Präsentationen und Tage der offenen Ateliers statt. Außerdem können jederzeit individuelle Termine für Besuche und Treffen vereinbart werden.
