HOWLS
Participatory performance

28 November, 2019, Thursday 4.30 – 5.30 pm
Crossroads of Jochamstraße and Deutingerstraße in Freising

Did you ever notice the sounds of the city? The humming of air vents, the buzzing of electric boxes, the howl of backyards. In this live-event the artist Timothy Maxymenko gives all passersby an opportunity to play with the live sound of a lamp post at the crossroads of Jochamstraße and Deutingerstraße in Freising.

The Performance starts at the moment when the lamp lights up and starts to make its sound. Since all the lights in Freising are switched on not by time but by the light sensor, we do not know the exact minute when it will turn on that day. That’s why we meet at 16:30 in order to witness this moment together!

The city tells everyone something special, and it is exactly how the personal relations with the city are built. It might be some melody or vibration, for example, a sound of the sewage system, ventilation system or power transformer vault. One should just listen closely and try to decode the message. All the cities have their own voices: some of them sound clearer; some of them are thoroughly disguised. In this regard the cities resemble people: some of them try to mask their wrinkles under make-up foundation cream, while the others prefer their natural look.

Timothy Maxymenko lives and works as guest artist in the Schafhof – European Center for Art Upper Bavaria in the framework of the European Art Fellowship of the District Council of Upper Bavaria (Bezirk Oberbayern).

Artist-in-residence

The artist-in-residence program takes place in the framework of the European Art Fellowship of the District Council of Upper Bavaria.

During the stay of the guest artists in Freising presentations and open studio days provide the possibility to meet with and know more about the artists. There is always the option to arrange individual visits and meetings as well.
