presentation by Prof. Moritz Eggert, Munich
Solanum Tuberosum Sound Synthesis by the Belgian artist Steven Tevels is a series of sound art installations composed of a chain of oscillators ‒ or sound sources ‒ running through filters ‒ or potatoes ‒ which signals are then sent to an amplifier for gain staging. The main idea behind Sound Synthesis resides in the fact that all conceivable sounds can be produced by electronic oscillators. In other words, it is the art of creating sound in an artificial way. The artist creates his personal experimental ‒ and playful ‒ environment in which he can manipulate electrical signals and then turn them into sound waves by means of speakers.
