Eunju Hong

Eunju Hong lives and works between Germany and South Korea. She explores the impact of technology on society, both on human and non-human beings, viewing it as an organ that can be both contamination and death drive, as well as desire, prosthesis or a letter from a daughter to her mother. She interweaves fictional narratives and stories of individuals through film, found-footage, performance and installation. Her work is dedicated to microscopic interventions, investigating the sensory and emotional adaptation of the body while exploring the dystopian imagination that emerges when biased A.I. technologies dominate.

She is currently researching the connection between collective trauma caused by new materials, war experiments and medical technology. She has studied at Korea National University of Arts, Beaux-arts Paris and HfG Karlsruhe. In 2023, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in the class of Julian Rosefeldt and was awarded a DAAD scholarship. Her work has been presented in group exhibitions such as Goethe Institute Paris, Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Asia Culture Center Gwangju and Gallery of Artists. In 2022, she had her first solo exhibition at Gallery175 in Seoul, South Korea.

Artist-in-residence

The artist-in-residence program takes place in the framework of the European Art Fellowship of the District Council of Upper Bavaria.

During the stay of the guest artists in Freising presentations and open studio days provide the possibility to meet with and know more about the artists. There is always the option to arrange individual visits and meetings as well.
