Maria Berauer

Maria Berauer's artistic work includes performances, videos, installations, sound art and actions in public space. The connecting element of her artistic practice is the body as tool and material, source of information  and means of self-expression. Based on questions about simple parameters of the conditio humana, the artist examines the varieties of human existence and behavior. The ephemeral of performance art and its implicit resistance form the foundation of her artistic understanding. Shaped by dance, she relies on the
immediate presence and sensual peculiarity of physicality and movement, expanded by verbal and tonal expressions, costumes, objects and spaces. The body becomes the place of action and venue at the interface of aesthetic, political and ethical questions. Equally important to individual practice for her is work in artist collectives and shared authorship.
